I do greatly admire Jan's work, although I didn't fully understand his 'new' method, but it seems it's basically front side/back side. At the time of his first book, I believed that was a 'new thing to do, and was certainly also promoted by Teri Dusenbury in her groundbreaking split-rings books. Jan does seem to do 'dense' tatting with not a lot of open space and therefore seems very labor intensive, although beautiful. Good luck with your projects!
