Out of town shinanigans

Yesterday was my son's 10th birthday! He's going to a WWE wrestling event today as his birthday request. We still wanted to do something and since he said he didn't care what, we ended up joining my brother and sister-in-law. I had planned to take our youngest to a Tea Party with my sister-in-law so she wouldn't feel left out since her dad and brother were doing something together without her. I just called to get the info to the place, as it turned out they were going there as well.

We arrived in the L.A. area pretty early so we went exploring. I finally  managed to find/visit a Daiso store. I was really hoping they carried the tatting shuttles there. The lady behind the counter told me that their sister store in Anaheim gets them every now and then and I would have better luck there. I did pick up a few things like a vegetable steamer for the microwave. The kids each got to pick out 4 items they wanted, I got three.

The felting kit I got as a joke of sorts. We all love watching Threadbanger's Channel "Man Vs. Pin" on Youtube. The very first episode I watched is where he attempted to make a felt rabbit. Go watch the video, it hilarious! When I saw the kit at Daiso, I couldn't help myself.  The fan I got for it's parts. I was thinking it was a paper fan but it's actually a bamboo/polyester combo and feels like it will last quite a bit of time.

The cup...I love the cup. It comes with it's own built in spoon holder and spoon! How can I NOT get it? There were a few more odds and ends (mostly Japanese snacks) that we got, then it was time for tea!

Our son was happy when we first arrived but his mood went south the longer we were there. None of us could figure out why and later on our return trip he told us why. Turns out he didn't like the way my sister-in-law was being a bit bossy about the the trip. She can get carried away at times. As the day went on, spirits picked up with another shopping trip, this time to Olvera Street.

We did go all the way to Chinatown. Unfortunately, most of it was closed as it usually is on Monday's also it's Chinese New Year. There were a few shops open and I purchase some coins with our Zodiac's embossed in them. By this point we were all ready to head back as we had been walking the entire time. Let me just say this body of mine was not used to so much exertion, especially with my asthmatic limitations. Still, in the end we did have a good time exploring.

  1. Looks like fun. Will you make a tatted fan?

    1. That was my intention when I bought it. It's so pretty that I don't want to take it apart now. I'll probably to to our local dollar stores and see if I can find others to re-purpose.

    1. Thank you. We had so much fun that we decided to plan another trip in a month. This way my Oldest can join us as well.
